In 2022, John Deans — a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and former Delta Airlines mechanic — partnered with Juana de la Cruz and her brother Lisandro, heirs to a Dominican tobacco family with over five decades of experience.
The De la Cruz family has farmed and cured premium tobacco in the Dominican Republic and Ecuador for generations. Lisandro oversees all production and blend creation from their factory in Tamboril, Santiago de los Caballeros. Every cigar is made from proprietary tobacco grown on their own farms.
Madre Tierra donates 100 cigars monthly to veteran organizations and ships to deployed troops worldwide — because, as John puts it, lighting a cigar lets you disconnect from the world for an hour and not worry about anything else.
